I created this poster to communicate Iowa’s natural beauty. For inspiration, I turned to the silk screened travel posters made by the Works Project Administration (WPA) in the 1930s. With striking colors and simple text, the posters told the viewer to “See America” and portrayed the grand landscapes of states like Montana and our National Parks.
By connecting Iowa to these national landmarks, I hope to show the value of maintaining and restoring the natural spaces In Iowa. I believe that art and design can inspire Iowans to recover the beauty that once was and consider Iowa’s natural spaces as inherently valuable resources.
